photo shoot with Lights
Yesterday I conducted my first ever photo shoot! And I had the most beautiful subject of all time - Lights!
Since I bought my wonderful Canon Rebel T1i in November 2010 I have mainly photographed live music, the University of Michigan Men's Rowing Team, and my family. All candid or posey-pose, but never a blatant shooting. So yes, in the past 20 months I have never had a model to direct and photograph! Until now. Now I have Lights.
We went up to the rooftop of Lights' apartment building and shot around for a while in the summer sun. I wasn't entirely sure how to direct her as a model, so I just let her have at it. She's done so many photo shoots over the years - she knew exactly what to do.
As the shoot went on we started to get better and better photographs - I learned a lot with each depression of the shutter button (as per usual: all of my training is on the job). I also noticed that Lights is so naturally beautiful I would have had to try harder to take a bad photo than a good! Win! Win!
After the shoot we went and ate some frozen yogurt at Menchies. YUM. She talked me into putting cheesecake crumbles in my bowl and they were DELICIOUS. Best decision. As we ate we selected 6 images for... use at a later time (can't say yet).
I had to have the photos edited by this morning. So I stayed awake all night learning how to use Photoshop because, as you may recall, I've never used the program other than to watermark photos. I've always used Picnik! But now that they've sold out to Google, I have to actually take .raw images and learn professional editing. OY VEY!
PS. Low res b&w screen cap to prevent high res theivery. Oh the internet.
