February 10, 2008All Time Low AlbumsIn the All Time Low Fans group (www.buzznet.com/groups/alltimelowfans), one of the forum topics asks what your favorite ATL album is. I typed out a nice response and just wanted to expand on it in a journal entry. The Three Words To Remember When Dealing In The End: An awesome EP with that old-school garage-band sound. Granted, the album isn't perfect, but it has a lot of raw talent. Matt Squire once said, "The crappier the recording the better, so I can just concentrate on the song." I'm not saying that ATL stunk like a skunk, but the imperfections are what makes this such a memorable record. You hear the band for they what they are and what they'll bring to the table - it's very rough, but you can hear their solid musicianship. I don't listen to it now as often as I used to, but when I play the record, I can't help but enjoy comparing how far they've come. Does anyone know why they didn't include WE ALL FALL DOWN on it? That's a solid track, but I don't know how many people have ever heard it. The Party Scene: Wow, what a great album. I especially love the instrumentals - very classy. My only complaint lies with THE GIRL'S A STRAIGHT UP HUSTLER. It's a great song, don't get me wrong, but near the end when they sing "she gets what she wants and she breaks what she gets..." the other voice that comes in on the second time around just sounds kind of different. I don't really like how that turned out. I think it could have been recorded better. But NOEL is definitely my jam. I have listened to that song on an endless loop more times than once. I have completely lost myself to the guitar part - it is just perfect. STICKS, STONES, AND TECHNO does a nice job of showcasing their versatility as a band. Plus, I CAN'T DO THE ONE TWO STEP has some really tremendous lyrics. "Don't be afraid I've got your back when times get rough and bring you down." To some they may be simple, but I love them. Put Up Or Shut Up: There is no way that I can even count how many times I listened to this EP. Every song was wonderfully created and recorded. JASEY RAE! I am at a complete loss for deciding which words I can use to describe this track. I'm not speechless, just speechfull. I love that song. Love, love, love, love, love. Plus, COFFEE SHOP SOUNDTRACK is a phenomenal single. They really outdid themselves with that one. Alex perfected "I know she hopes I'll choke on this last drink..." in the PARTY SCENE. Nailed it! It's fun, too, to hear RUNNING FROM LIONS electrically recorded and not acoustic like on TPS. Very cool. So Wrong, It's Right: Definitely epitomizes pop-punk rock. SIX FEET UNDER THE STARS is another great single that really did a nice job of promoting the album. With respect to the entire record, some of the lyrics are utterly insightful, others are fun and catchy, but all of them are unique and show just how much thought went into each verse. The music behind each song, too, is one-of-a-kind. Even if there were no lyrics, I wouldn't be able to turn the record off. All Time Low has more than just handsome faces, their songs are just phenomenal. I must say that STAY AWAKE and LET IT ROLL have really high play counts. Those songs were very nicely done and I really appreciate their subtle purity. There's not a wasted second - I never feel a need to skip the end of the song in order to avoid repeated choruses or instrumental sections. I marvel at the songs in their entirety and love them for it. The boys did a marvelous job of creating the music and Matt Squire did an outstanding job of putting everything together. All in all, I would put my vote toward a Greatest Hits album with the following songs on it (in this order or any order that one so chooses): Coffee Shop Soundtrack Related Groups:

February 6, 2008Trying to digest some HORRIBLE news...I realize that it isn't the end of the world, but the news still stings like hand-sanitizer on a paper cut. Don't know what I'm talking about? Lucky you... this was posted last night and I have been struggling to cope with it all day: Monday, February 04, 2008
The Format was my sister's most favorite band and definitely one of my top ten favorites of all time. Last year alone I saw them in concert three times (she saw them five times) and enjoyed every moment of their shows. Plus, I was fortunate enough to meet Nate in August - he is such a darling. Well, other than that I am at a complete loss for words. - Katie
